In Forrester’s dressing area, a shaken Hope updates Brooke on the situation with Thomas. Brooke feels that some things just aren’t meant to be, but admits she’s shocked — Thomas seemed so devoted to her. He was dead set on having a life with her for years now. Hope thought she could count on him too; that he would always be there for her, but now he’s abandoning her and what they share. She grits her teeth over not saying yes. “I just wasn’t ready.” Hope wanted him in her life though, and now that’s not going to happen thanks to Steffy. She just couldn’t help herself. Thomas wouldn’t be doing this if not for Steffy. “She poisoned him against me.”

Brooke’s spoken to Steffy and has to say she doesn’t disagree with Hope. She definitely stuck her nose in and did whatever it took to undermine her relationship Thomas. “She claims she’s being a protective sister.” Hope calls that bull — she played the Forrester vs. Logan card. They agree that Douglas won’t take this well. Just then, the boy walks in. Hope wipes her tears and tells him they have some things they need to talk about. Brooke gives them space. Hope tells Douglas she’s going to reach out to his dad, but the boy says he already knows she turned down his proposal. “He’s not the only one who got his hopes up.”

In the main office, Thomas talks to Steffy and Ridge about his decision regarding Hope. Ridge grunts, “It’s a big step, son.” Thomas says it’s a necessary one. Brooke walks in and tells Thomas she’s not sure he realizes how devastated Hope really is. Steffy snarks that she’s experiencing the consequences of her own actions. Brooke volleys that it’s the consequences of her interference. Brooke asks Thomas if this is really necessary. Thomas asks, “What’s with the 180? Your daughter didn’t want to marry me. You got what you wanted.” Ridge says Brooke didn’t want to see either one of them hurt. Thomas says Brooke hasn’t wanted him with Hope for years. Brooke squints at Steffy.

Brooke tells Thomas this isn’t what she wanted at all. Steffy rolls her eyes. Brooke reminds Thomas she warned him he might be disappointed. Ridge grunts, “Disappointed? His whole world crashed around him.” Steffy chimes in, “Yeah, because Hope’s daughter used him and finally Thomas came to his senses.” Thomas can’t have Steffy attacking Hope. He tells Brooke he loves her daughter and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, but she doesn’t want that. “This is what you wanted in the end.” Brooke didn’t want to see the two of them in anguish like this. Brooke yells at Steffy, “None of this would have happened if you hadn’t involved yourself in the first place!” She rants about there being children involved. Douglas is with Hope right now. “What’s he going to do when he finds out his father is leaving his mother?!”

In the dressing area, Douglas asks Hope why she made it seem like they could be a family. She replies, “We are a family.” Douglas states that she doesn’t want to get married. Hope tells him she doesn’t, not today. She’s not ready for that big commitment yet, but that doesn’t mean she won’t be ready in the future or that she doesn’t want to be with his father. Douglas feels she doesn’t love dad enough to make them a real family. “Why aren’t we good enough? You don’t love us enough?”

Hope assures Douglas that she loves him… so much. Douglas complains that all his dad wants to do is marry her, to make them a family. Hope repeats that they are a family and she’ll always be his mother. Douglas says his mother died. “Caroline Spencer. Dad was enough for her.” Hope flinches. She knows things are tough right now, but they will work through them together. “I will always be here for you, and I will always be a part of your life.” Douglas replies, “Not now. I want to go with Dad.” Hope says it’s not that simple — they have joint custody. Douglas says if his father is leaving, he wants to go with him. “I love him so much. He’s my hero. Please don’t stop me from going. Don’t make me go through court stuff again. He needs me, and I need him. Goodbye.” With that, the boy turns and walks to the door. Hope protests, “I love you!” Douglas runs back into her arms. Hope picks him up in a tearful bear hug. “I love you, Mom.” Hope cries, “I love you.”

More: Why Steffy will regret sending Thomas away

In the main office, Brooke asks if Steffy even thought about Douglas. “That little boy is going to be crushed!” Steffy says Hope should have thought about that before she started playing with Thomas’ emotions and treating him like some kind of sex toy.” Brooke’s jaw drops. Just then, Douglas enters. He says he told Hope how disappointed he is and that he wants to go with him. Brooke asks, “You’re going away.” Thomas says he’s going away to Paris for a while and he doesn’t know how long he’ll be gone. “Douglas is coming with me.” Brooke snaps that Hope is his mother and has a say in this. Douglas informs her, “I told her I needed to go with my dad.” Ridge will miss them, but he understands. He hugs Thomas and Douglas. Steffy shoots Brooke a smug look before hugging them as well. Thomas says, “Bye, Brooke.” He will let them know when they get settled. Steffy walks them out. Brooke cries. “I can only imagine what Hope is feeling about all of this.”

In the dressing area, Hope flashes through happy times with Thomas and Douglas as the boy’s words echo in her mind. “Why aren’t we good enough? You don’t love us enough?” and Thomas saying, “Steffy was right.” Steffy appears and says, “I just walked Thomas and Douglas out. They’re on their way to Paris.” Hope’s not in the mood. Undaunted, Steffy taunts, “Thomas finally sees you for who you are. Hallelujah! Thomas and Douglas are gone; free of you. You are officially out of their lives.” Hope turns to her with a frightening glare.
