General Hospital has really put Liz and Finn through hell in their relatively short time together. And along the way, a goodly portion of fans has rooted for portrayers Rebecca Herbst and Michael Easton to be sprung from the storyline and moved on to other on-screen love interests. Now, at last, it looks like it’s on the verge of happening — and we may have her ex Lucky to thank. Here’s how.

One for the Road

Since Finn fell off the wagon, and seems likely to stay off of it, Liz has tried to support her boyfriend every way that she knows how. But she’s also been down this road with another addict: Lucky. You’ll recall that after the cop was injured on the job, he became addicted to painkillers and got caught up in a downward spiral that found him having an affair with Maxie (before the vixen’s redemption).

No way would Liz ever want to endure that kind of pain again. So rather than subject herself and, by extension, her kids to it, she is likely to cut and run. She’ll still be there for Finn, of course; that’s just who she is. She just won’t risk her oft-broken heart on something as unpredictable as his recovery.

Hallelujah!

Splitting from Finn might hurt Liz, but it will thrill fans of both vets. Finn and Anna, they were into. Liz and Jason, for sure. But Finn and Liz? Not so much. “I really do like both actors. The writers haven’t written for Finn and Liz like they should’ve,” tweeted Kara J. “They would be good as friends, but Liz needs to be with Jason and be in a story. Finn needs to work on himself for a while.”

“The time has come to end the hostage crisis,” exclaimed JustJackie. “Free Liz.”

On June 4, after General Hospital posted a preview in which Finn mansplained to his significant other that he wasn’t an alcoholic (mmkay), some viewers thought that the end had already come and gone. “Elizabeth knows he’s lying. This isn’t her first time listening to an addict sling their sincere addiction apology BS,” noted PJ Rosiewa. “That being said, Liz and Finn are over. You could just feel it in that hug and kiss. Great job, Becky and Michael.”
