The Bold & The Beautiful Kills Off Major Character

With so many spoiler sites online, it’s not easy for soap operas to shock fans with a character’s death. However, The Bold & The Beautiful did just that last week when long-time villain Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) was killed after an encounter with Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood.)

Brown originated the villainous role on B&B‘s sister soap, The Young & The Restless, in 1990. The actress and character crossed over to Bold & Beautiful in 1992 but jumped back and forth between the soaps for over three decades.

Of course, soap characters are rarely actually dead, but the actress said that Sheila won’t escape death this time. The surprising decision came after two other high-profile firings  – Rena Sofer and Krista Allen.

CBS Announces New Daytime Soap Opera

In 1994, NFL player OJ Simpson stood trial in a double homicide involving his ex-wife. The trial took over cable and network channels. CBS, NBC, and ABC soaps were preempted for months as the trial dragged out.

There are currently only three soap operas airing on network television and one on streaming. Days of Our Lives permanently moved from NBC to Peacock streaming in 2022. General Hospital airs on ABC. CBS has two daytime dramas and is about to get a third.

The network is partnering with the NAACP to develop a soap opera with a predominately Black cast. The Gates follows a wealthy family living in a gated community.

Not many details about the new sudser are out so far. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emmy-winning soap writer Michele Val Jean will serve as both the writer and the showrunner for the new daytime drama. Val Jean previously wrote for B&B, General Hospital, and Santa Barbara.

The Bold & Beautiful Faces Cancellation?

CBS already has a packed daytime schedule. The popular game show The Price is Right airs before soaps Y&R and B&B. The talk show The Talk takes the timeslot after the sudsers. Where will the new soap opera fit into the schedule?

Rumors online speculate that The Bold & The Beautiful could be canceled after 37 years. The network recently renewed The Young & The Restless for four more seasons. B&B was previously renewed through the 2024-2025 television season.
