We had such high hopes when The Young and the Restless cast soap-hopper Brian Gaskill to play Nikki’s AA acquaintance, Seth. “A new guy on the show… to whom no one is related?” we thought. “Let’s roll!”

But alas, Seth’s roll — and Gaskill’s role — turned out to be short. The actor, who had only made his debut as the new year got underway, made his final appearance in the March 5 episode when it was revealed that his was not meant to be a new character on the canvas so much as a short-term pawn in Crazy Aunt Jordan’s game of Kill the Newmans.

Jordan and Set visit Nikki GH

In the episode, Seth made the fatal mistake of calling BS on the madwoman and suggesting that he should indeed take her to her intended victim, Nikki — with the police in tow. Jordan feigned indifference but was anything but ambivalent about the prospect of being thrown back behind bars. She conned Seth into joining her outside for a breath of fresh air, then gave him a forceful nudge in front of the first car that passed by.

Before we could yell, “Hit the brakes,” Seth himself was hit, thus setting up the next step in quick-thinking Jordan’s bonkers scheme. As for Gaskill, though we’ll miss him on Young & Restless, there remains a chance that he could remain a part of CBS’ daytime lineup.

You’ll recall that among his past roles was one on Bold & Beautiful: Oscar Marone. “Oz,” as he was known to his friends, was the nephew of Massimo Marone and therefore the cousin of Mojo’s biological son, Ridge Forrester. Were CBS to decide, “Hey, this guy’s pretty good, we should keep him around,” it could simply cross him over to Young & Restless‘ sister show to pick up where he left off.

Oz was once engaged to Bridget Forrester, but he had a formidable rival for her affections in her ex-husband, Deacon Sharpe. That, combined with the fact that Deacon’s subsequent wife Macy Alexander was killed on opening night of Oz’s nightclub, would make for a fantastically adversarial relationship on Bold & Beautiful — especially if Deacon leaned on Bridget in the wake of his latest fiancée Sheila Carter’s death. (Well, supposed death!)

Responding to Seth’s fate on Instagram, Gaskill marveled that “between social media and the Internet in general, news travels ridiculously fast these days… so… yeah, that happened.

“I had a great time on Young & Restless with the producers, directors, publicity department and other actors,” he added. “And it was incredible to see so much support from all of my friends on social media, who have been following along over the years. So grateful for all of you. Now let’s see what comes next… ”
