Later in August Braeden announced that his cancer was gone after undergoing a series of treatments.

He told the outlet “It’s funny, I don’t react immediately to things. I react afterwards. On the way home, I thought, ‘Keep on looking at it step by step.’ That’s good advice for anything you do in life. Don’t anticipate the result, don’t think way ahead. No, take it step by step.”

This February CBS renewed the soap for four more years. The show debuted in 1973 and is CBS’ longest-running program. Y&R is set to air through 2028.

Braeden said about the renewal “I was very happy because it’s obviously a testament to the fact that people still watch it. Very lucky considering there are so many unemployed people in Hollywood. Very, very lucky.”

Braeden also took that moment to thank the fans that have embraced the show and made it a success.

Putting his incredible tenure in perspective Braeden said “When I came here, I signed for three months. I said, ‘I won’t do any longer than that.’ And the rest is a 44-year history. Isn’t that something?”
