The returns just keep on coming over on Days of Our Lives! Hot off the heels that Stephen Schnetzer would be coming back as Julie’s brother Steve Olson, Deidre Hall (Marlena) just let us know that another of Salem’s biggest names from the ‘80s is making a return as well!

The actress was talking to Alan Locher for The Locher Room podcast during a live interview Friday afternoon when she dropped the news that, ““Speaking of gems, we’re having a number of people coming back to the show in the next few weeks for episodes that we’re doing. And Gloria Loring is going to be coming back!”

Jaws on the floor. Loring played Liz Chandler from 1980 to 1986 and she had a huge impact on the show back then. Back in the day, Liz was a lounge singer, and her performances on the show with Carl Anderson helped propel Loring’s hit “Friends and Lovers” up the Billboard charts to number to #2 in 1986. At the time, it was even Shane and Kimberly’s theme!

Aside from singing during her time in Salem, Liz was married to Don Craig, Tony DiMera and Neil Curtis. Fortunately, Liz and Don went their separate ways fairly early, so she didn’t have to worry when he went out to mail a letter and was never seen again. Unfortunately, that was because Stefano revealed that she was still married to Tony, at which point she was kidnapped and forced to live in the DiMera mansion. On top of that, they forced her to spy on Doug.

Things got worse from there (a whole lot worse), but eventually, Liz managed to get free of the DiMeras and reunite with her true love, Neil Curtis. The two ended up having a daughter, Noelle, together (which makes her Sarah’s half-sister, since Neil is Sarah’s true dad) and marrying, though it wasn’t to last. Despite Neil eventually buying Doug’s place for Liz, they just couldn’t work things out. They divorced in 1986 and Liz left town and hasn’t been seen since. Until now!

Though there’s no word on why she’s coming back, it’s a safe bet she’ll be one of many folks returning to say farewell to Doug after Bill Hayes’ passing, from one beloved lounge singer to another.
