At Steve and Kayla’s, Abe thanks his friends for their hospitality. He takes one of his packing boxes to put in Steve’s car on his way out. Kayla follows so they can both go to the hospital for Paulina.

Chad comes to the paper where Leo brainstorms column ideas. When Leo pitches an article about the prison break, Chad chastises him for wanting to give press to the man who brutally murdered his wife. His kids had to be taken out of school because their friends kept talking about the bad man who escaped. They’re scared out of their minds. Leo genuinely apologizes for his insensitivity. Chad just prays they catch Clyde before he kills someone else.

At the Spectator, Leo faces Chad with a whimsical expression.

Since Everett is out for personal reasons, Chad asks Leo to write about Paulina’s release from the hospital. Leo happily accepts his assignment. Once he’s gone, Chad recalls visiting Abby’s grave. A disheveled Stefan stumbles into the office drunk, looking to have another drink with his brother. Chad takes Stefan’s liquor bottle from him and asks what’s going on. Stefan asks if Chad’s ever had deep regrets.

Upon running into Harris at the police station, Jada confronts him about being with Ava. She worries he’s throwing away his career for her. Harris appreciates her concern, but he knows underneath everything, Ava is a good and decent woman. Pointing out she’s a suspect in their drug investigation, Jada states his relationship flies in the face of their code of conduct. “If anyone knows about ignoring code of conduct,” he retorts, “it’s you.”

Steve brings Abe’s boxes to his and Paulina’s apartment, where Johnny’s preparing for their homecoming party. The men marvel over the marrieds miracles and discuss Steve helping to rescue Tripp and Wendy. Johnny says there’s a warm place in hell for whoever helped Clyde escape. Avoiding eye contact, Steve weakly agrees.

In the hospital lobby, Leo holds out a recorder to Paulina. She grimaces while sitting in a wheelchair. Abe stands behind Paulina, while Kayla gives Leo a wary look. Another reporter stands behind Leo.

With Chanel and Kayla, Abe pushes Paulina in a wheelchair through the hospital lobby. Leo and other reporters rush up to them, asking about Paulina’s miracle resuscitation. Abe tries to put them off, but Leo says they just want the facts. What brought Mayor Price back from the precipice? Paulina gives a boilerplate statement, thanking the deputy mayor and police commissioner for handling things in her absence and for all the love and prayers they’ve received. Leo tries to ask another question, but Paulina cuts him off. She’s going home. After everyone disperses, an undeterred Leo heads off.

At the paper, a solemn Stefan tells Chad he’s been doing a lot of thinking about what went down between him and Abigail. He can’t remember if he ever apologized — or apologized enough. Chad and Abby didn’t deserve that. He was a selfish, arrogant bastard. Chad says he and Abby got through that because they loved each other and were meant for each other.

In the Spectator's bullpen, Chad stares his furrowed brow offscreen.

Stefan vows he had nothing to do with Clyde’s escape. Chad wonders why he would think he had. Ignoring the question, Stefan says he can’t imagine how Chad feels right now and that he loves him. Chad tells him to go sober up, but Stefan is sobering up. He has to face the music and figure out all the right moves — chess moves.

As Johnny and Steve prepare flowers and balloons at Abe and Paulina’s, Steve stares off, distracted. Entering with Abe, Chanel, and Kayla, Paulina delights in the surprise celebration. As everyone nibbles on snacks, Kayla notices Steve off to the side, looking like he just lost his best friend. He assures her he’s fine, just fatigued. Leo comes by with a flower delivery, looking for a real quote. After some sweet talking, Paulina agrees to give him ten minutes.

Wearing a baseball cap and utility jacket in Abe's doorway, Leo holds a flower bouquet in front of his face. Abe frowns. Steve and Kayla look on.

At the station, Jada admits to bending the rules here and there, but Harris is breaking them. She urges him not to sacrifice himself. Maybe it’s time for Ava to pay her dues and for him to stop protecting her.

Stefan gulps water at The Spectator as he rattles on about having alternate strategies. He thanks Chad for listening. Chad, the good DiMera, inspires Stefan to want to be better himself. He pulls Chad in for a hug and thanks him for being there for him. “For being you.”

After Stefan’s left, Chad looks at a family photo with Abby. “I miss you,” he says before getting back to work. Opening his laptop, he sees a headline about Clyde. He slams it shut and stews. “I hope he rots in hell.”

At home, Abe extends his arms out to Paulina, as they affectionately face each other.

Leo hangs out at the party as everyone drinks mimosas. Even Kayla gives him a quote, saying that Paulina’s recovery is something they’ve never seen before. Paulina calls it a miracle born of faith and love. She plans to make the most of her second chance. They all toast to her.

As Harris puts Jada off about Ava at the station, a cleaned-up Stefan enters. He turns himself in for drug trafficking and money laundering. He admits Clyde made him push drugs through the Bistro. However, he acted alone and forced Ava to keep her mouth shut when she found out. He tells them to call his brother the D.A. because he’s ready to cut a deal.

Next on Days of Our Lives, John plans to turn himself in.
