It’s safe to say there is absolutely no love lost between General Hospital‘s Carly and Nina… and to be fair, each has pretty good reason to despise the other. Secrets were kept. Lies were told. And right there in the middle of it all has been Sonny, the man both have loved and lost. So it’s more than a little ironic that he might wind up being the one who brings his bickering ex-wives together, with an assist from Nina!

If you’ve been paying attention, Sonny and Ava have slowly but surely been getting closer. This was especially true during the closing moments of the episode airing on Thursday, March 7, which left us wondering if the two might share a liplock (or something more)!

Obviously, this wouldn’t be their first time going “there,” as evidenced by daughter Avery. But there’s a big difference between the anger-and-grief fueled romp Sonny and Ava had in the Quartermaine crypt and something more meaningful.

Certainly, many fans — including us — have long hoped for Sonny and Ava to give romance a try. Portrayers Maurice Benard and Maura West routinely talk about how much they enjoy working together, and it shows whenever their alter egos cross paths.

Until now, however, the time has never quite seemed right. But circumstances have conspired to not only put them in one another’s orbits, but assure that such a union would create major ripples across the canvas, much of it impacting Nina and Carly.

Think about it: Ava is Nina’s best friend (despite the former having literally ripped a child out of the latters womb years ago). Meanwhile, although Carly and Ava have made a reluctant piece in the name of co-parenting Avery, especially when Drew’s current girlfriend was Sonny’s wife. Despite this, Ava and Carly have never been what you’d call close, and the gallery owner hooking up with Sonny would no doubt raise every single one of Carly’s hackles!

Which means that Ava and Sonny hooking up could have the delicious consequence of putting Nina and Carly on the same side in order to derail any chance of it becoming a lasting thing. Because Nina certainly wouldn’t sit back and watch as her so-called friend became Sonny’s latest lady. As for Carly, while she claims to be over Sonny, the two have gone their separate ways numerous times over the years. It doesn’t help that Drew’s darker side emerging has caused a bit of a rift between the former Navy SEAL and his girlfriend.

With material from the show’s new headwriters airing any day now, we can’t help but hope they see the same potential for juicy drama in this situation that we do!
