The search for Abigail is on this week on Days of Our Lives! Clyde’s prompting is leading Julie and Chad to Chicago and answers — or is he just leading them right where he wants? That’s the question we’re left with when they discover something or someone this week.

Off-screen, we know that it’s tied to AnnaLynne McCord, who makes her debut this week. Onscreen, who she is is a bit trickier to define. Luckily, McCord lays it all out for us, though that doesn’t necessarily clarify what’s happening.

“You very quickly see that my character is under extreme duress,” she teases, “and it’s Chad and another character that come to the rescue. And so there’s a whole rescue operation being planned around my character because you very quickly are shown that trouble is afoot.

“And so the first little bit is kind of this, ‘Who are you? What’s going on?’”

Chad was out following Clyde’s clues to find his supposedly not-so-dead wife, but did he actually succeed this easily? Has, after just a few brief teases from Clyde, he and Julie actually found Abigail or someone else? “You don’t know me or what’s happening,” McCord clarifies, “because obviously my character doesn’t look anything like Chad’s wife.”

And that’s a problem. Resurrections aren’t unusual in Salem, but most folks come back looking the same. Except, of course, when they don’t… Like what happened with EJ.

To make matters worse? Almost nothing about her matches up with Abigail — but it could. “She’s had amnesia,” McCord explains. “She’s gone through a serious accident. She’s had plastic surgery. She has had a whole myriad of things occur and she is navigating a really sticky situation when you first meet her.”

All of that is awfully convenient if it came to faking a resurrection. Because even if she is Abigail back from the dead and Chad “is the love of her life, she still doesn’t feel anything because she doesn’t know who she is.”

And that too is a problem, because sometimes Salemites come back looking different, with no memory… and aren’t who they were claimed to be. Remember when everyone thought John was a mindwiped/surgically altered Roman?

“What we believe is that she’s Abigail Devereux, back from the dead,” McCord explains. But “you see that she is playing along with what Clyde Weston is making her do. The first few days are really just kind of figuring out who’s gonna trust who, is trust gonna be a part of this conversation. And immediately I think, you see a little bit of a spark of desire to not be so obstinate on my character’s behalf towards Chad.”

So which is she? The real deal or a fakeout from Clyde? An EJ or a John? McCord isn’t telling, but she does realize that no matter what, she’s stepping into a role and a storyline that comes with a lot of expectations. And she doesn’t take that responsibility lightly.

“I hope that the fans of Days, if you don’t love me, at least don’t hate me,” she shared. “I’m very excited to be a part of this. I know what it’s like to love a character and to have it done in a new way, and I hope that I make you guys happy at least in some capacity.”

Plus, she promised, “There are lots of twists and turns!” But then, we’d expect no less from Days of Our Lives!
